Extracting images from a PDF

Recently I was required to extract images from some "scanned" PDFs. Some quick google-fu and I came across Stefaan Lippens' blog pointing out the excellent pdfimages tool.

Installing on my Mac was easy with Homebrew:

$ brew install xpdf

A few quick shell commands later (-j for jpeg):

$ pdfimages -j my.pdf imagePrefix

Done.
